He set out to get outside more. He ended up building a neighborhood.
Grantlanta Lawn is a family owned landscaping company based on Kelly Street in Grant Park, working across East Atlanta since 2016. This is how it started and what it means for your yard.

- The show
Grant spent years as a touring musician. After a show at the Royal American in Charleston, he decided he wanted a healthier, more rooted life back home in Atlanta, and figured pushing a mower was a good place to start.
- The mower
He posted in a few neighborhood groups: I'll mow your yard, pay me what you think it's worth. He was happy just to be outside and useful. One of his first customers told him he was too good at this to not have a real price, so he set one.
- The name
There wasn't one at first. Neighbors saved him in their phones as "Grant Mower Guy." A year or two in, his wife came up with Grantlanta, and it stuck.
- The neighborhood
Thousands of yards later, Grant Mower Guy had become Grantlanta Lawn: a crew of specialists, an office that answers, and neighbors who keep calling back. Along the way he noticed how hard it was to find anyone reliable for the rest of the house, so he helped start the Southern Shmooze to cover everything beyond the yard.
"Anyone can own a mower. But can anyone pick up a phone?"Grant Wallace, owner
The crew
Grant has personally mowed thousands of yards and done close to a thousand cleanups, and he still likes a company where the owner has gotten his hands dirty. Today the work is shared with specialists who each have a lane: Mohammed turns jungles and blank slates into makeovers, Abe handles landscape installs, Zach and Carlos lead cleanups, and Heather in the office is the reason you hear back from a real person. Most of them live in the same neighborhoods they work in. If something's amiss, they're minutes away, not across town.
What it's for
Grantlanta Lawn grew into The Southern Shmooze, a community of 17,000+ neighbors recommending local businesses to each other, and Peace of Mind Recycling, which picks up the things the city won't. Ask Grant what the mower gave him and he'll say everything. His family, his house, the habit of doing things right.
"One tiny decision created a million fantastic decisions."Grant Wallace, owner
He still plays shows on weekends.
